Despite his injuries and his loss, Joey Chestnut is still the favourite to win the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. As sports fans, one of the things that draws us in is the opportunity to see the very greatest athletes compete at the very top level. At this moment, it is impossible not to acknowledge the contributions that athletes such as LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Sidney Crosby have made to the development of their respective sports. As we become older, we’ll be able to brag to our offspring and grandkids that we saw these musicians perform in person. It is imperative that Joey Chestnut not be neglected in any way.
It’s possible that there isn’t any active athlete that is more dominating in their current “sport” than Joey Chestnut, who competes in eating competitions. What used to be an exciting competition with Takeru Kobayashi has evolved into one of the most dominating runs we’ve seen in any sport. It should come as no surprise that Chestnut will go into the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest held on the 4th of July as the overwhelming betting favourite.
Joey Chestnut is a very well-liked athlete. Takeru Kobayashi was victorious in the Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest for a record-setting six consecutive years, from 2001 to 2006. 2007 was the year when Joey Chestnut stunned the world by defeating Kobayashi. Chestnut went on to win two more times against Kobayashi until a contract disagreement between the two of them and Major League Eating prevented him from continuing to compete in the event.
Following his victory against Kobayashi in 2007, Joey Chestnut went on to win eight consecutive bouts. Matthew Stonie caused a sensation in the world of competitive eating in 2015 by defeating Joey Chestnut. Chestnut, however, made his triumphant comeback in 2016, and he has now won six consecutive hot dog eating events in a row. Chestnut will attempt to win his seventh consecutive race and his 15th race overall on the 4th of July.
It should come as no surprise that Chestnut is the heavy favourite to keep the mustard belt. Chestnut is a 3-to-1 favourite to win the tournament, while the other competitors have odds of 10-to-1. In the previous year’s competition, Chestnut won by a margin of 26 hot dogs over the runner-up, Geoff Esper.
The average gambler isn’t going to be interested in betting odds of 3,000 on a guy eating hot dogs, and that’s perfectly understandable. There is a wager placed by those individuals on the over/under for the amount of hot dogs Chestnut will consume. BetMGM is now taking bets on whether or not Chestnut will consume more than or less than 74.5 hot dogs.
Since she came back from her maternity leave, Sudo has been maintaining a very healthy diet. At the 2022 Egg Roll Eating World Championship, Sudo ate a total of 28.75 egg rolls, which was more than twice as much as the next closest lady. The 2022 Donut Hole Eating Championship was won by Sudo, who consumed 221 donut holes in only eight minutes. The next closest female eater consumed 116.
When she competes again in 2022, Sudo, who is already a mother, will be a prohibitive favourite on the women’s side. While the rest of the field is available at odds of 11-to-1, Sudo has odds of -5000 to win the competition.
The previous year’s champion, Michelle Lesco, won when Sudo withdrew from the competition. She consumed 30.75 hot dogs, which is a paltry amount in compared to the 48.5 hot dogs that Sudo consumed in the year 2020. This year, Lesco will attempt to defend her championship, and most people consider her to be Sudo’s primary rival.
The over/under for the amount of hot dogs that Sudo will consume has been set at 46.5 hot dogs. In six of her seven victories, Sudo has won with a score lower than this figure, averaging slightly over 38 hot dogs each year. Having said that, she did surpass this figure in her most recent victory. It’s possible that her primary aim is to improve upon her prior record, given that the other participants aren’t anticipated to provide much opposition.
Chestnut broke the record for fastest person to consume 76 hot dogs in ten minutes last year. Since he had 75 hot dogs in the year 2020, he has now eaten more than 74.5 in two consecutive years. Since Chestnut regained his title in 2016, he has been steadily increasing the number of hot dogs he consumes each year, with the exception of 2019. In that year, the hot temperature and heavy humidity were a problem, but it does not seem as if the weather will have a large influence on the participants in this year’s race.
A great fan favourite among the female competitors is Miki Sudo. In 2011, Nathan’s began hosting a woman-specific competition for their annual hot dog eating contest. In 2014, Miki Sudo earned her first mustard belt, and she went on to win seven consecutive competitions on the women’s side after that. Because she was expecting a child in 2021, she opted to skip the competition.
